You gotta be in it to win it

You gotta be in it to win it
August 25, 2012 Sue

One of the hardest things to do as an artist is to put your art out there for the whole world to see.  These creations are our babies. What will people say?  Are we good enough?

Over the past several years I have been entering different juried shows and exhibits and although the process gets a little easier there is still a pit in my stomach whenever that letter comes giving the yay or nay.

Last month there was a call to artists from the Georgia Council of the Arts for an exhibit to be held at the State Capitol in Atlanta. I received the email at the last minute, deadline was only a few days away. The paintings had to show a reflection of Georgia in the work. Well, I thought I had two pieces that would work perfectly so I threw caution to the wind and quickly sent my submissions in.

Needless to say I was thrilled when the email came to say that both of my pieces had been chosen!  Woohoo!!

With the Govenor

So yesterday, myself and 27 other artists met with the Governor as we brought our paintings to the Capitol. They will be placed throughout the public spaces in the Capitol.

Many thanks to the Georgia Council of the Arts for bringing Art to the community!!

And don’t forget- You gotta be in it, to win it!

Sue, I haven’t figured out where I need to be in terms of applying to art shows, quilt shows, art quilt shows. I’ve done a little bit of it & have had both acceptances and rejections. Good for you on applying and exhibiting!

Janet, I think you will know when you’re ready or should I say want it. It is a great experience to compete with others in your field and it expands your horizons. Scary- yes, but also exciting! Go for it girl!
