Red Fish, Blue Fish!

Fish Collage

I’ve just gotten back from a little  much needed R&R in Cozumel, Mexico!

Ahh! Sunny days, warm ocean breezes and pina colada’s on the beach, now that’s my idea of a vacation.

So what’s a girl to do on a tropical island – PAINT of course!

I love using time during my vacation to get my sketchbook out and record all of the beautiful surroundings on my travels.

There is always something new to see and it becomes a great way to remember where we have been and traveled to.

This trip was with a great group of scuba divers at Dolphin Dive from Athens, Ga. Check out their site  to find out about all of the great trips they have planned and how you can learn to dive too!   What a super fun group of people, we had a blast!

So what would be more fitting than some hand painted cards with charming fish inspired by all the bright colors of Mexico.

The small size of the ATC’s ( artist trading cards) are perfect for when you are traveling. I package up a bunch and put them in a plastic lunch bag to keep them clean.

So easy to paint when you are lounging on the beach! Then when I get home I put them together to make the cards.

I love being able to send these for birthdays, thank you or I’m just thinking of you! What happened to those hand written notes??!

Sue, We were just in Cozumel, too, got back March 4! And I painted a bit in our apartment between outdoor times. Loved the sunshine and warm temperatures and kind people. Gotta go check out your cards.

Janet, how funny that you were just there in Cozumel too! We probably crossed paths at the airport. Isn’t it great to be inspired in a faraway place!

  2. I envy you. There’s been some snow in our county. Not in my neighborhood, not enough for a late start, but it is odd in spring to have snow. We will be on vacation in a week and a day. Can you hear me count? I think I will buy some of those cards and give them to my husband when we are off and see what he does. Writing and making jewelry are in my future. Thanks for the post.

I hear you Sheila! Even though I live in the Atlanta area and we are not getting snow it has still been a bit chilly here. Worst thing coming home was having to shoes back on, ha!

Sunshine…ocean breezes…sand in your toes…gentle waves…art supplies! Oh, yes! I see the makings of a perfect vacation! I love your cards and I think sending mail the old fashioned way is a special lost art. Ahora mismo quiero ir a la playa y pintar tarjetas!

This is so inspiring, Sue! So do you use actual playing cards and paint over them or index cards? Would love to know more about your process. That could be an ecourse in itself!

Amy- the Artist Trading Cards ( ATC’s) are the same size as a baseball trading card. They can be made out of different paper backgrounds but I use watercolor paper since that is how I’m painting. I’ve also done some beeswax collage pieces on the ATC’s too. I’d love to do an e-course on those, super idea- wanna help me write it!!

Sorry I missed this! Yes, I will be happy to help you write it. Just let me know. Feel free to email me.

Ahhh, I feel relaxed just looking at your art! Your vacation sounds wonderful. It’s always such a delight how some time away from your normal routine can really fill your well again and inspire the Muses to visit overtime. 😉 Love your cards! And that’s a brilliant idea to keep a supply of ATC-sized little “canvases” ready to work on.
